Sarah and David’s wedding at The Exchange Chicago had a calm, grounded energy from start to finish. As a Chicago wedding photographer, I was struck by how present they were with each other and with their guests. There was a warmth to the day that made every moment feel effortless and full of connection. Friends and family had traveled from near and far to celebrate, creating a joyful and intimate atmosphere.
Their wedding included a heartfelt first look at The Palmer House, wedding party portraits at Union Station, and a beautiful celebration in the atrium at The Exchange that carried on into the evening.
Both Sarah and David spent the morning at The Palmer House getting ready with their respective groups. Sarah was relaxed, surrounded by her closest friends as they sipped champagne and shared in her excitement. She wore a long sleeve lace gown while David looked sharp in a classic black tuxedo. The bridesmaids wore champagne-colored dresses, complementing the understated elegance of the day.
Sarah and David’s first look took place in The Palmer House’s historic lobby. Just before they saw each other, Sarah suggested that they read their private vows back to back. Watching them quietly tear up was one of those moments that makes photographing weddings so meaningful. When they finally turned to face each other, their smiles lit up the space and set the tone for the day. I love that they chose to start their day like this!

After the first look, we spent time capturing wedding party photos nearby at Union Station. The architecture and grand halls provided dramatic backdrops, while the city streets and buildings outside offered classic Chicago moments. The trolley ride between locations filled the day with playful energy, laughter, and candid interactions, perfectly complimenting the wedding party’s relaxed and joyful vibe.

One of the reasons I love weddings at The Exchange so much is its close proximity to so many beautiful photo locations. There are truly endless options, but here are a few of my favorites:

The Exchange is a fully customizable venue perfect for weddings, with four stunning rooms suited to weddings of any size. The venue features two bars, a Michigan Avenue entrance, a grand marble staircase, and expansive underground parking. Their team of event planners works closely with couples to curate a seamless experience.
The atrium serves as a grand but inviting space for ceremonies and receptions. Its soaring ceilings and natural light create a sense of warmth and elegance. The atrium can be transformed between the ceremony and reception. Draping, uplighting and candles can all add to the ambiance. Other spaces at The Exchange can be tailored for cocktail hours or more intimate gatherings depending on the size of the wedding.

Sarah and David’s ceremony in the atrium felt personal and heartfelt. The soft glow of candles and the evening light streaming through the windows created a magical atmosphere. Guests were fully engaged, and the overall feeling was calm, un-rushed, and deeply connected to the couple’s love and values.

During cocktail hour, guests enjoyed personalized touches like matchbooks and custom cocktail napkins featuring a watercolor illustration of Sarah and David’s dog, Franky. The space transitioned seamlessly into a reception, with candles replacing natural light to maintain the inviting ambiance. Speeches from friends and family were particularly touching, and the dance floor stayed lively into the evening. Laughter, cheers, and music filled the room, making it a truly joyful celebration.

The Exchange feels polished without ever losing its warmth or inviting energy. The atrium’s natural light is one-of-a-kind, while the city streets just outside the venue provide classic Chicago backdrops. The layout makes it easy to move through the day without stress, letting couples stay present with their friends and family. From quiet moments to energetic celebrations, The Exchange provides a space that supports every part of a wedding day.

Sarah and David’s wedding at The Exchange was relaxed, elegant, and effortlessly joyful. From the private vows before seeing each other to the fun on the dance floor, every detail reflected their personalities and values. If you are planning your own wedding at The Exchange, I would be honored to capture the experience.
